This project's occupancy date coincided with the fall semester, so time extensions were never a consideration. Frequent and heavy rains averaging 20 days per month during the construction of the all-concrete structure required Hoar's crews to work long hours any time it was not raining, including extended days, nights and weekends. The schedule recovery plan also added a second forming crew so two slab sections could be constructed simultaneously. These strategies eventually returned the project to its original timeline, but schedule challenges persisted. Our jobsite was just 50 FT from a dining hall that was under construction by another firm at the same time, and their contract included hardscape and landscaping that extended to the face of our building. Hoar had to re-sequence the exterior skin schedule to allow the other contractor access so the buildings could have simultaneous grand openings.
