When
F.R. Hoar opened a small
Birmingham
construction business in a little white frame
house, it was 1940-FDR was in the White House
and a world war was looming in Europe
and the Pacific. By 1947, when R.N. Hoar
joined his father and the company became F.R.
Hoar and Son, the United States
was a mighty superpower and Hoar Construction
was well established.
Soon the firm that began by building churches
branched out into other areas of construction.
Commercial and industrial clients brought new
challenges. Brick-by-brick and block-by-block
Hoar built its reputation in retail, offices
and schools. In
1959, Hoar built Eastwood Mall in Birmingham,
the first enclosed mall in the Southeast.
It became a showplace for the region, a point
of pride for Birmingham
residents, and set the stage for the company
to become a national contractor.
The company built a solid reputation for integrity
and reliability
based on quality
workmanship, dedication to detail,
and experienced
management. Re-incorporated in
Delaware
in 1978 and renamed in 1985 as Hoar
Construction, the company's professional relationships
grew until today

some
80
percent of its business comes from repeat
clients. In the early 1990’s
when an economic slowdown threatened to
restrict retail construction, the current
president, Robert O. Burton, saw an
opportunity to diversify into other project
types and to expand into other markets.
Repeat
clients led Hoar to launch a Texas Division
with a
Houston
office in 1997 and an Orlando-based
Florida
division in 1998. Then in
2001, the company
established the Tennessee Division in Nashville.
In 2008 Hoar
marked its 68th anniversary, a
third generation of family ownership and
management, and steady, stable growth to its
present position with annual
contract revenue of more than $500 million.
Bricks and mortar, concrete and steel are
important components of that success, but the
company's most vital building blocks are the
skills and integrity of its people.
Solid
values, financial stability, outstanding
leadership, and a talented, dedicated team
combine to earn Hoar Construction continued
recognition as a leader in the construction
industry.
