The Villages

This eight-building complex of residence halls offers housing for over 1,700 first-year students. It is something of a self-contained community with plenty of green space, landscaping that features native vegetation, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and recycling and bicycle storage facilities. Students needed to occupy their dorms on schedule, despite the fact other facilities in the complex were still under construction. Hoar worked closely with Auburn’s Housing Department to develop a security plan. Background checks were required for all workers, and site access was restricted to badged personnel only. We required each subcontractor to provide a detailed list of activities by location so we could notify affected parties. Workers were always escorted if those activities brought them into contact with students. We also confiscated all site keys at the end of every work day. Careful planning meant we completed the work on schedule with no incidents.
