Hoar completely reskinned this 500-bed, 6-story hospital while the facility remained fully operational. We safely removed and replaced the existing faces of the building while simultaneously repairing hurricane damage to the facility that occurred between the end of Phase I and the start of Phase II. We divided the project into 12 phases where the existing exterior on all seven stories of the building was demolished and rebuilt across four patient rooms at a time. The reskin required extensive relocation of medical gas and electrical systems to allow the reconfiguration of interior walls around newly designed nurse stations. Breaking the scope into smaller, more manageable phases minimized disruption to the fully operating facility and enabled the team to improve their technique and pick up speed as the project progressed. Despite two different hurricanes that stopped construction, Hoar was able to overcome the delays and even improved the project’s completion date.
