Robert Smith Vance Federal Building and Courthouse
Birmingham, Alabama
The Robert Smith Vance Federal Building and Courthouse was originally built in the 1920s and is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The project involves updates that will increase energy efficiency and meet LEED Silver criteria. The MEP scope included a complete high-performance modernization of existing systems. This work is underway while tenants maintain occupancy of the second floor, which presented challenges to maintain systems as well as egress to the second floor as the balance of the building undergoes a complete renovation. Temporary protection, access ramps, and phasing of MEP system work were pre-planned to provide the second floor tenants uninterrupted service to their space.
