North Pavilion Hospital Concrete Frame
The University of Alabama at Birmingham
Hoar was contracted to deliver the foundations and concrete structure for the 946,000 SF hospital. The project was fast tracked, and we were constructing the concrete structure while the remainder of the project was being designed. This required extensive coordination. We worked closely with the architect, engineers, owner, and other contractors to coordinate sleeves, embeds, recesses, and slab block-outs that were constantly changing, even up to a few hours prior to slab pours. We developed production maps to schedule the hourly progress of the forming, reinforcing, PT and pouring operations required to meet pour dates and used web cams to help us maintain those schedules. We met regularly with other team members to discuss these maps and make adjustments if needed. We met our deadlines and when we turned over the structure, we had successfully placed 64,000 CY of concrete with over 10,900 embeds and used more than 5,000 tons of reinforcing steel.
