Airbus Engineering Design Center
Mobile, Alabama
The Airbus Engineering Center is a 2 story, 50,000 square foot class A office building with a structural steel frame, 2 story curtain wall exterior and a limestone veneer façade. The interior was designed with an engineering teamwork philosophy in mind, offering low-walled cubicles, informal meeting areas and whiteboards for sharing ideas. The first floor consists of the main entrance lobby and houses conference and training rooms, as well as future expansion space for offices. The second floor primarily consists of open office areas with cubicles for the design engineers. Airbus wanted to replicate the old warehouse district feeling of their facility in Wichita, Kansas. To accommodate that request, Hoar installed traditional 3 1/2 “ wide red oak hardwood floors on the second floor, field sanded and stained them without a clear sealer to give the floor an aged appearance. Construction of the office building was complete in January 2007.
