Hoar Construction’s Retail Division was born when the company successfully completed Eastwood Mall in Birmingham in 1959. At the time, no one suspected what a huge impact the southeast’s first enclosed mall would have on the company. Soon retail construction became the focus of the company’s capabilities. Retail clients were pleased with their experiences with Hoar, and as the shopping center industry expanded, so did the company. From that initial project, Hoar has grown to be one of the largest retail contractors in the country building more than 90 million square feet of enclosed malls, shopping centers, power centers, anchor stores, and lifestyle centers in more than 30 states. Retail is still one of the company’s leading markets. And in all those projects, in all those locations, through hurricanes and snowstorms, Hoar Construction has never missed an opening date.
